The 6 A's of PBL Project Design +2: Administrative Support

Advocacy, alienate, allegory, amiable, anomaly, archaic ...these are all great words, but they are not what we mean we talk about the 6 A’s of PBL Project Design. We’re adding just one more bonus "A" to our series on the 6 A’s of PBL Project Design. This video will wrap us up and address Administrative Support. Alright! So we are on the 8 As at this point, but this is another big pillar.

Magnify Learning has grown out of a very grassroots movement. We started out as teachers teaching over the summer. We started holding these free connection conferences. We would say who has something that worked? And then those people would be the presenters, so we could all learn. It was fun!

As we have grown to be a national nonprofit organization working to spread PBL and equip teachers, we have found that administrators play a critical role in the success of PBL’s sustainability in a school. We have seen it thrive or wither based on the administrator's view of PBL.

Let’s look at two ways for administrators to support PBL.

-Jump in and be curious.

  • Go experience an Entry Event, or even help plan it.

  • Be a part of the authentic audience. It shows your support of the work, and it lets you hear what learners are experiencing.

  • Teachers, similar to a community partner invitation, don’t be afraid to invite your administrator to one of your PBL events.

-Get trained.

  • At Magnify Learning, we hold administrative workshops specifically designed to help you see the best ways to support PBL in your school. You don’t need to know how to build a PBL Unit, but you do need to know the components and how to adjust evaluations and professional development to help support the work.

  • Find something specifically for you as an administrator.

We are all on the same team working toward the same goal of providing new opportunities for our learners. Everything we are doing can be improved through data, good questions, great resources, and collaboration. Jump in together teachers and administrators with an open mind to learning how to best serve your learners.
