Many new educators align with the ‘why’ of Project Based Learning, but then get intimidated when it comes to the first day and initial implementation. The 6 Steps of PBL are designed to give you a structure to work within during your PBL Unit. Step 1 - Define the Problem

The key to finishing a PBL unit well is to start well! The first step is to clearly define the problem. Launch the real world problem the learners will be solving.

Step 1 is a great place to insert your community partner to demonstrate to your learners why this work is important. Let the learners start to ask questions through Need to Knows. Engagement should be high to start this work.

By the end of Step 1, your learners should know what their task is, be curious about possible solutions, and engaged in the process.

Step 2 - Solution Criteria

Step 3 - Solution Research

Step 4 - Pick a Solution

Step 5 - Create, Run, and Inspect Solution

Step 6 - Reflect on Solution
