What is your “WHY” for teaching? Teaching is a blessed profession that enables us to use our wisdom and creativity to build a better life for ourselves and everyone we touch. My curiosity about the big wide world is what led me into teaching and I enjoy sharing this inquisitiveness with others and learning with my students as a team. I seek to help others discover their gifts and share them with the world – whatever they may be.

Area of Expertise: English as a Second Language, Early Childhood Reading, Project-Based Learning, Arts in Education

What is your PBL experience? I have been implementing PBL since the fall of 2020 and completed my certification in PBL in summer of 2021. Notable accomplishments include the establishment of a school garden at Blake Elementary School where I teach, a donation program with a local food bank, and a current collaboration with a local animal shelter in which my students are providing supplies and assistance with finding the animals’ forever homes.

What is your favorite aspect of PBL? The authenticity. PBL is not just learning, it is living. It is a chance for students to develop their skills while making a genuine contribution. It helps students see their vital role in their community and that they have the power to bring about the world they want to live in.

Why do you enjoy facilitating? Facilitating enlightens all involved. I enjoy seeing teachers grow their ideas into meaningful works and along the way I always learn something I can bring back to my own practice.
