What does PBL look like in a Kindergarten classroom?

What does Project Based Learning look like in Kindergarten? It’s impressive what these learners can do, and it’s also really cute! :)

I went into a PBL Kindergarten classroom and had a blast! When we start learners off early with building employability skills, it’s amazing what they can achieve. From the moment I entered the room, I could feel their excitement for the learning and presenting that was about to happen. They didn’t have any of the jitters that adults seem to have.

They clapped when I came into the room. They shared the learning they were doing. Every learner presented in front of a packed classroom. Parents showed up! The learners answered questions on the fly...unscripted! They were thinking and talking and sharing, and it was awesome! We have partners implementing PBL at all levels of education. From preschool to higher ed, we see inspired facilitators moving learners from passive to active, from apathetic to engaged, and helping them find their place in the world. Rural, suburban, urban partners are showing PBL can be effective in diverse settings.

You have a lot of resources out there for PBL at this point. There is also a network of PBLers out there that you can connect with. Don’t do this alone! Reach out to the larger PBL community. Whether it’s by jumping into a PBL Workshop to learn with other educators from around the country or by connecting via social media with a twitter chat like #pblchat. Find a way to connect. You are not alone. This work is important. You can do it.

Every person deserves to be a part of an inspiring story even the littlest ones and PBL allows that to happen.. We believe that you as the classroom teacher are the best person to create an environment and experience to engage learners, tackle boredom, and transform your classroom.
