What is Project Based Learning?

As Magnify Learning provides PBL professional development across the country, we find we often need to start by defining what we mean by PBL. For us at Magnify Learning, we believe Project Based Learning should engage in authentic problem solving that gets learners involved with community partners. For example, rather than a scenario project where we pretend we are naturalists who create a plan to rid the local park of invasive species, Magnify Learning will advocate that learners in fact BE naturalists and go out into the local park to enact their plan of ridding the park of invasive species. Project Based Learning with real world active learning opportunities allows learners to be engaged in the learning process as they master their standards, and they have authentic reasons for learning 21st Century Skills.
